ICT Unit, IPTS, DG JRC, European Commission The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) is one of the seven scientific institutes of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). IPTS is located in Seville, Spain. Since 1994, IPTS promotes and enables a better understanding of the links between technology, economy and society. Its mission is to provide techno-economic analysis in support of the EU policy-making process. IPTS' prime objectives are to monitor and to analyse science and technology developments, their cross-sectoral impact, their inter-relationship with the socio-economic context and their implications for future policy development. The Information society, competitiveness and growth (IS&Growth) action within the ICT Unit of IPTS focuses on supporting the overall formulation and implementation of information society strategies, policies, regulations and actions contributing to a competitive, innovative and inclusive European information society.
